We grow almost all
of our Trees and Plants in AirPots or Rootrainers. These pots and cells are designed to channel the roots down or out, to
prevent root circling and binding in the pot, and to air prune the roots, promoting fine root growth closer to the main stem.
The end result is an extensive developed root system in the pot, which means planting out is easier, with much less risk of
transplant shock to the plant, and much faster establishment and growth.

We are in the process of moving from peat-based compost to coir (cocoa fibre) based compost. This is not
because we think it is "greener" or a means to "saving the planet". It's because we feel the quality
of the peat based multipurpose compost we have been using has declined very markedly over the past year or so. We were finding
much more woody bits, plastic contamination, general muck and clay, and, worst of all, seemingly guaranteed outbreaks of compost
gnats. The cocoa fibre is much cleaner in this respect: we'll let you know how it performs. Meanwhile, you may receive
some plants in peat based compost, and some in cocoa fibre. Your comments and thoughts gratefully received, if you have experience
or strong feelings on the matter.
